Cinery Urn - Life Marker

An investigation into an urn engraved with mythical beasts designed to protect the spirit of the remains. I’ve taken that concept into the modern era where we’re more concerned with physical damage than spiritual. In response I’ve designed a watertight urn that’s lined with lead, to protect against rising sea levels and radiation in an increasingly nuclear world. Looking into this subject lead me to review my family’s atheist traditions around death. My grandmother’s ashes are kept in Spain and England and have been scattered around the earth by family and friends in homage to her love of travelling. This urn is now central to that process of remembering.
